Safe, Effective, Affordable Sedation Options

No matter how you look at it, there’s no such thing as a 100% painless dentist visit (unless, of course, you’re only going in for a consultation). Most oral structures are inherently sensitive, hence the common and frequent pain, bleeding and discomfort associated with routine hygiene tasks such as flossing and brushing. Such sensitivity has been the catalyst for people’s irrational fear of the dentist. This is where the importance of quality sedation dentistry comes into play. Dr. David M. White has been practicing and serving the people of Reno, NV and Elko, NV for over 17 years, and has seen more than one patient walk through his office with severe dental anxiety and dental phobia. Our goal every day is to make each patient’s office visit as convenient and pain-free as possible. Depending on the individual patient, we offer two main types of sedation: oral sedation dentistry and nitrous oxide sedation. Depending on your specific treatment, one or both of these options may be applied in order to achieve the best possible dental experience.

Exploring Sleep Dentistry and Sedation Options With Dr. White

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide sedation has been one of the simplest and most common methods of dental sedation for generations. Known for its giggle-inducing effects, nitrous oxide is an inhaled gas that provides patients with a sense of full-body sedation and relaxation. Unlike other forms of sedation, nitrous oxide wears off quickly, allowing patients to drive themselves home after their procedures (in most instances). If you live in northern Nevada and have been searching for “nitrous oxide dentists near me” or want to inquire about nitrous oxide dental costs, look no further!

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a type of dental sedation that comes in the form of a pill or gel capsule, or in some instances, a liquid. In the majority of cases, Dr. White will prescribe oral sedation prior to your actual visit to the office. This allows the effects of the sedation to kick in well before your scheduled procedure. In terms of effects, oral sedation is often more “potent” than nitrous oxide sedation. In fact, many of our patients end up falling asleep during their procedure! For this reason, oral sedation patients must arrange transportation to and from the office.

Postponing Dental Care Can Cause Long-Term Harm

We realize that for most, a trip to the dentist’s office is not at the top of your “fun list.” Dentist visits can be stressful, anxiety-inducing and admittedly, painful in some instances. However, postponing or avoiding your trip to the dentist’s office can actually result in harmful side effects that can have an impact on the body as a whole. Simply put, you shouldn’t let your fear of the dentist keep you from getting the oral health treatments that you need and deserve.

Dr. White has treated thousands of patients in his nearly 20 years as a practicing dentist in the Reno, Nevada region, and the majority of these patients have either needed or requested dental sedation treatment. Dental sedation is a safe, convenient, practical option that can have the power to fully transform your dental experience.
